Lack of Sleep and the Health RisksWith millions of people suffering through all kinds of sleep disorders, are they taking seriously the other health risks that can happen? There have been several studies done through out the years, and although we still don’t exactly why we need sleep, there is no doubt that it is essential to overall health. Sleeping needs to have the same consideration in your health plan as diet or an exercise program. More and more proof is coming to light that lack of sleep can lead to several types of health issues. You find yourself dragging around all day with a serious lack of energy. But if you sleep well, the next day you fell like a millions dollars. So if you feel that bad after loosing one nights sleep, what do you think is happening to you when you start loosing several nights or even weeks? Once your sleep cycle has been interrupted and you have not been able to get back into it, your body starts messing up your hormone levels, metabolism even your blood pressure can be affected. This can result in heart disease and stroke. You see what happens, is the body, because of lack of sleep, will release stress hormones that increase your chances of having heart and stroke issues. Lack of sleep has possible links to certain types of cancer, obesity, diabetes, and infections. Lack of sleep will weaken your immune system opening the door for all kinds of heath problems. We know the depression can cause people to get insomnia, but that also works the other way around. To many sleepless nights can lead to depression making the problem much worse. Some over the counter sleep medications can be used but these should work quickly and have you sleeping normally in a few days, if this is not the case stop using them. You may want to consult your doctor and get a prescription, again, if this doesn’t help in a short period of time stop using it. You don’t want to risk the possibility of addiction, never mind what the side effects may be. The good news is, that it takes a long time missing a lot of sleep before any of these problems will start to occur. This doesn’t mean don’t worry about it just don’t panic. This gives you time to seek help now don’t put it off. Face the problem and find the solution that will help you get back to a natural sleep cycle and live healthy.
